Well here it is March and it does not seem possible. People need to see what they can do to help the earthquake victims. Going there in person is a very bad idea, probably getting in the way of rescue efforts.

Here are things I can do:

Write a song, poem, or article to raise awareness – incredibly many people do not even know there were two cataclysmic earthquakes – Haiti and Chile - within a two weeks of each other.

An earthquake cannot be predicted not as good as the weather. And in cities built on stilts there is no refuge.

Probably the best use of money is the Red Cross. Although “adopting a child” may be best-intentioned, I don't think that would help.

If you have a music club, consider having benefit concerts. Offer your local church or synagog to organize a benefit – perhaps a concert, or hire a lecture for a “benefit” speech. Of course be aware of any expenses and see if they can be absorbed rather than eating up the cash you get from the concert or event.

Although a moment of prayer and silence may seem good, they are no substitute for tangible efforts.

I think that too long I have had my mind in a technical haze. Now is the time to listen to the music and come to the aide. Talking about it and watching it on TV or via NPR (National Public Radio,
“All things considered” can keep you aware. Remember, CNN is not your only news source, but certainly a start.

As the cell phone rings, ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for you.

See you during April showers.
